Major Tournaments in Pro Tennis
There are four major tournaments in both men's and women's professional tennis. They are (in calendar order) Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. Australian and US Open are played on hard courts, French Open on clay courts, and Wimbledon on grass. For the men, these tournaments are each worth 2,000 points (the highest amount of points any tournament during the year is worth). The draws are out of 128 entrants, and the top 100 male and female players get put in the draw automatically. The rest of the spots are filled with either wildcards- players chosen by the tournament to be put into the draw, or through qualifying, where players have to play a smaller tournament to even get a chance to play in a major.
